SKYEYE PACIFIC launches MAUA-TAXI hailing service with the blessing of the Land Transport Authority and the Samoa Tourism Authority. The MAUA Taxi App enables seamless and efficient ride-hailing experience for users. Users can easily schedule rides online, track drivers in real-time, and benefit from transparent pricing with each trip. Additionally, passengers have the opportunity to rate their driver after every journey, contributing to an elevated standard of service and accountability. - Technology has been a great friend for People Living with Disabilities as mentioned by Ari Hazelman, the Disability Inclusive Coordinator at the Samoa Blind Persons Association (S.B.P.A) and member of Nuanua O Le Alofa (NOLA) at his presentation at the Samoa IT Association Technology Expo in 2023. With the MAUA TAXI, People Living with Disabilities will have access to technology to efficiently hail a Taxi with Assistive Tools of smartphones able to read the text on the mobile screen and inform them of the cost and notify them when the Taxi has arrived. The Maua Taxi will also monitor the journey and will inform them when they have reached the intended destination because there have been cases of blind passengers being dropped off at false locations.
Fare charges have often been a subject of dispute. MAUA TAXI provides a solution for the sometimes erratic fare fluctuations amongst the taxi service providers by using a combination of location and distance to calculate the fares to correlate as close as possible to the Taxi Fares Book by LTA.
There has been many tragedies on Samoa’s roads over the years that prompted Skyeye to help improve road safety and safe carriage of passengers and cargo through, the Skyeye Vehicle Tracking system that has been in operation since 2013. However the vehicle tracking has been mainly utilized by the Private sector and Government. There is still a gap in the Public Transport industry with regards to road safety. So the MAUA TAXI is an extension of this support to improving road safety and help protect lives and assets.
“The MAUA TAXI App has been in development for the past four years. It is the result of extensive consultations with 17 taxi stands and numerous drivers in order to make sure the app works with the existing ecosystem of taxi drivers. We took care to consult the relevant authorities and stakeholders from the beginning to ensure that the MAUA TAXI App is applicable, viable, user friendly, and compliant with existing legislation of Samoa”, says Fa’asootauloa Sam Saili CEO of Skyeye Pacific.
MAUA TAXI is the latest addition to one of Samoa’s ecommerce platform – MAUA.APP. The Maua. App already has online shopping that includes micro vendors from the remote villages in Upolu and Savaii, restaurants, hardware stores, pharmacies, to flagship stores such as SSAB and Farmer Joe Supermarket chain. The inbuilt ALA AddressingSystem enables accurate delivery of goods and services that have been purchased by local and overseas buyers through the Maua MPAY Payment Gateway. Payment options allows buyers to pay using Credit Card (VISA/Mastercard etc), mobile wallets M-Tala by Vodafone or Digicel’s MyCash, or pay cash on delivery. In this sense, the MAUA.APP ecommerce platform is truly enabling local entrepreneurs and businesses to increase access to local and overseas markets and participate in local and international trade.
With the addition of MAUA TAXI, the MAUA.APP is forming up to be a useful helper for residents and visitors alike.
